Transgender Advocacy Groups

While NTAC does great work, it’s definitely not the only transgender advocacy group out there. There are many organizations doing much to further the cause of transgender people in the U.S. and throughout the world. Here are some more organizations to check out for information on all types of transgender issues and different aspects of gender variant advocacy.

  • Transgender at Work: This group provides resources specifically about transgender issues in the workplace. Since workplace harassment is something experienced by nearly all transgender people, this site is a great place to start for ways to better the workplace environment for people of all gender identities. The group helps employers set company-wide rules to help transgender employees and has information about transgender health insurance plans and other work-related resources.
  • Transgender Law and Policy Institute: This organization focuses on providing legal information and support to transgender people. They answer legal questions about non-discrimination laws, hate crime, school policies, and employer policies. They can also refer people to attorneys who specialize in defending transgender people.
  • Renaissance Transgender Association: Legal issues are not the only place that transgender issues manifest themselves. That’s where organizations like the Renaissance Transgender Association come in. They aren’t political—their mission statement revolves around educating individuals about transgender issues through community programs and support groups. They also have information for people who are caring for a transgender loved one.
  • Survivor Project: Transgender people are at a unique risk for domestic violence and sexual assault. The Survivor Project is a non-profit that helps trans and intersex individuals who have been victims of such crimes. Founded in 1997, they have educational programs, workshops, consultations, and other resources for raising awareness of gender variant people and sexual crime. They help organize and empower survivors and have a broad philosophy of ending oppression of all people.
