Today there is more transgender advocacy happening than ever. And, as you might expect, more progress is being made on gender variant issues now that ever before. Stay up to date on current transgender-related news with these great resources.

  • Transgender News Yahoo Group: This site is a great aggregator of current and past news items and articles of interest to the transgender and broader LGBTQI community. It’s a great place to find out about international happenings on transgender issues.
  • Laura’s Playground: Here is another place to find transgender news from many different publications and countries. The site is specifically for the transsexual, transgender, and crossdressing community.
  • e-Transgender: This blog covers both news and personal anecdotes about being transgender. It’s a great place for people who may be wondering if they are transgender for the first time.
  • Transgender Mental Health: As an oppressed group, it’s no surprise that gender variant people experience more mental illnesses than other groups. This blog has news about trans issues, as well as information about dealing with mental health issues as a transgender person.
  • Transgender Equality Blog: This blog is maintained by the National Center for Gender Equality. It updates frequently and often covers non-transgender specific issues through a transgender lens.
  • Trans-Ponder: Here you can find excellent podcasts about transgender and gender LGBT issues. The podcast was nominated two years running as the best LGBT podcast out there.
  • TransGeneration: This blog is designed to be an online magazine specifically for transgender people. There are many types of posts, from news, to health, to sex and love.
  • Gender Across Borders: This isn’t a strictly transgender site, but its global feminist bent does frequently touch on issues brought up by the gender binary. The blog’s mission statement is to create a “global, feminist community.”
  • Transgender Zone Blog: This UK site monitors how transgender people are represented in the media. It also covers general transgender news and events.
  • Lavender Magazine: Here you can find the digital edition of Minnesota’s LGBT magazine. The site has a wide variety of content, from cooking tips to news and politics. It’s an interesting read for people of any gender identity.
  • Trans-Academics: If you have an interest in the study of transgender people as an academic pursuit, this is the site for you. The site has many educational resources, a list of trans-studies programs, and a research library.
